A RUPTURED MIND

Media: Stop-motion animation

Time: 1 minute 7 seconds

A stop-motion animation inspired by the play Psychosis 4.48 by Sarah Kane.

The play is an acutely subjective presentation of depression and psychosis, giving an insight into the mind of the protagonist. There is no strict narrative or timeline.

The play can be distressing to read, not only because of its content but because the author committed suicide shortly after finishing the play. The animation intended to depict the dark corners of the mind of the protagonist, as the characters and scenery are inspired by quotes directly from the play.

In reference to the non-linear narrative of the play, the animation was edited to create a disorientating notion of time. The animation is thematic and, as such, time, chronology and narrative are not important in the communication of the sensation and ambience of the work.
